DESCRIPTION

ANTIQUE SCRIMSHAW SWIFT. Offering for auction is this very nice antique scrimshaw yarn winder. Made of whale bone and whale ivory. The slats/stays are made of whale bone and the center shaft as well and has a number of small silver inlays. The base and top are made of whale tooth ivory with nicely turned incised lines, some in red and blue. This swift is in excellent condition and is mechanically very good. A very well made yarn winder that dates circa 1850. Swift is 21" tall and opens easily to 20".
