I am offering today an old framed and matted letter and envelope written to Lettie S. Benson of Philadelphia from a friend stationed in 1901 on the USFS Kentucky in Takoo China. The letter starts out Friend Lettie and is a newsy letter about receiving her letter while he was in Chifton China. He goes on to apologize for not getting back sooner as and I quote "there was some trouble down here again". Since it is in an original and old frame and matting, I have never taken it apart to see the remainder of what looks like a 2-4 page letter if it is written on all sides so it may tell more of what was going on in 1901 in Takoo. Nice old nautical item that would look neat hanging in your nautical room or if you are a historian, to open and remove to see the rest of the letter and what it has to say. Now even though it looks like it is U.S. F. S Kentucky I was unable to google it in that context. Lots of info on the USS Kentucky that was launched in 1900 but don't know if it is one and the same....so it is what it is and a neat find.
