This is a wonderful antique Scrimshaw tooth of a Young Lady,in a long dress sitting on a chair. It probably is from a image in a Godey's Magazine or similar that was quite popular back in the days of Whaling. It also could have been a portrait of a young whalers girlfriend or wife.??The girl portrayed is quite stunning and pretty.A very handsome piece of scrimshaw to add to a collection. The tooth is 5" tall...2 1/4" across the base..and has a great patina.A good period..1850-1870 era tooth..a very desirable pretty young lady.
