AMERICAN FOLK ART CANE. FREE SHIPPING. $195. Hand carved American folk art cane with entwined snake around the shaft. Cane is also carved with this information "Wm. J. Miller Str M.F. Henderson Portland OR - May 11, 1903". Cane is 37" in length, has some damage at the end and is painted black. The paint has alligator, so its difficult to read the hand carved inscription, but is legible. The M.F. Henderson was 160 ton sternwheeler built in 1901 by the Shaver Transportation Co. as a transporter and tow boat. In 1952 the Henderson was used in the filming of the Jimmy Stewart movie Bend of the River, carrying the name River Queen. The same year the Henderson participated in the last sternwheeler race on the Columbia River. The Henderson was abandoned on the beach until 1964 and John Hounsell removed the paddlewheel which he brought for the museum and restored in 1977. The Henderson paddlewheel is on display at the Hood River Historical Museum Oregon. FREE SHIPPING! cane-snake1-10
