EARLY SHIP CAPTAIN’S DESK. BUY IT NOW! This auction is for an early wooden sea captain’s lap desk. Top of desk is inlaid in lighter colored wood. Internally has felt surfaces on the writing surface and top hinged storage compartment. The wooden key escutcheon is in the form of a shield(no key) 12" X 9" X 5 1/2". Overall in very good condition, noting the top surface has a small age separation lower left and overall has abrasions and a couple of small inlay pieces missing. Desk includes such ephemera cancelled bank checks from Mechanics National Bank fo New Bedford Mass., 1876, receipt from the Steamer ‘Bessie Smith’, 1907, warranty deed from Mass. 1867, Harper’s New Monthly Magazine 1877, other receipts and stuff.
