EXCEPTIONAL SCRIMSHAW CANE. This auction is for a very large heavy duty ‘going ashore’ captain’s cane. Cane shaft is made of coconut wood with large whale tooth ivory handle in the form of a clenched fist. The cuff has 4 inlaid ebony buttons and the ferrule is carved whale bone. Cane is 36" in length and the hand itself measures 3 1/2" long and is 2 1/2" wide. Expected age checks to the carved hand, otherwise in excellent condition for a mid 1800’s scrimshaw walking stick. cane-fist-1,2,3,4.jpg
